25 Ways to Save on your Wedding
Your wedding budget will be the deciding factor on every element of your wedding day so it is important that you keep tight control on it. In these difficult economic times many couples are looking to save as much money as they can on their wedding day festivities, so here are 25 ways you can cut costs without cutting back on your wedding dreams.
1. Hire a wedding planner to organise some or all of your day. It may seem like an extravagance but they can take control of the budget and spend it in a much wise way than you can.
2. Keep your reception and guest list to a size you can afford. Remember the more guests you have, the more it will cost you in terms of food and drink and venue size.
3. Choose a wedding photographer who is available to be hired on a per hour basis. Set packages can be expensive and you can save money by only hiring them for some select shots rather than a job lot.
4. Have a weekly manicure in the run up to the big day rather than paying out for expensive artificial nails for the wedding day.
5. Avoid the peak wedding months of May to September. Instead get married either side of these when prices are lower but the weather is still good. Also consider a week day wedding rather than a weekend.
6. Cut your catering costs by having a buffet rather than a formal sit down meal. Buffets tend to offer more variety in dishes but are cheaper because you don’t need as many waiting staff.
7. Avoid peak holiday times for your honeymoon. If you have to postpone the honeymoon to a later date when it is more affordable. Also avoid booking any destinations where major events, such as sports events, are due to take place as rates will be at a premium.
8. Consider using faux flowers instead of fresh ones. These days the quality of silk flowers is so good you will not notice the difference and they have the added advantage of lasting indefinitely!
9. Consider what is most important to you both about your wedding day and keep those priorities most prominent in your minds. Whilst a spectacular wedding dress is a wonderful thing, a fabulous party with friends and family makes for a more lasting memory.
10. If you have chosen a religious wedding ask about when the church will be decorated with flowers and if they can remain in place for your wedding day. This will save you a huge chunk of your budget on floral arrangements.
11. Champagne for the toasts can be very expensive so opt for cheaper versions such as Cava or sparkling wine. They are considerably cheaper and the chances are your guests won’t even know the difference!
12. Save money on your floral arrangements by using less flowers and filling out the arrangements with foliage instead. The effect can be very striking and certainly more affordable!
