MAID OF HONOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITY

Tuesday, February 21st, 2012

Are you chosen as the maid of honor of the bride? Are you confused on what exactly is your role?

I researched and read this article which compiles all the duties and responsibilities of the Maid of Honor.

The Maid of Honor’s (MOH) responsibilities include:

  1. Attending all prenuptial parties.
  2. Help address wedding invitations and announcements.
  3. Entertain a party for the bride and groom…if possible.  This could be a couple’s shower.
  4. Assist bride with going away clothes and luggage.
  5. Be sure that bridesmaids are kept aware of their fitting appointments, rehearsal obligations and any special duties that the bride may wish for them to do.
  6. Arrange with a florist for a supply of rose petals to shower on the bride and groom as they leave.  If a flower girl is in the party, she is responsible to see that the child knows when and how to do this.
  7. Arrive at the church, or wherever the wedding maybe, or home of the bride early enough to help with bride and bridesmaids with dressing (at least 2 hours early).
  8. Remind the best man which ladies will be wearing their flowers  (Mother, grandmothers, organist, soloist, hostesses, etc.).
  9. Assist bride with her train during ceremony and in the receiving line.
  10. Hold the bride’s wedding bouquet for the exchange of rings during the ceremony and hand it back just before the recessional.
  11. In a double ring ceremony, carry the groom’s ring until it is time to hand it to whomever maybe holding it during ceremony.
  12. Assist the photographer with identification of the members of the bridal party and later for pictures, which are taken at the church and reception.  Be sure to find the kind of candid shots the bride may want of the out-of-town guests.  Be certain the photographer has taken an appropriate number of these candid shots.
  13. Witness and sign the marriage certificate after the ceremony.(if applicable)
  14. Stand in the receiving line. If there is one.  The traditional place to stand is at the groom’s left side with her bridesmaids to her left.
  15. Assist the bride when she is ready to change into here going away ensemble.
  16. With the best man, help the couple depart.
  17. See that the bride’s gown is taken care of according to her wishes.  Usually taken to the bride’s home or to a cleaner.

You should always remember that as a Maid of Honor, you should make sure that the bride is in perfect place as possible. And always take note to never outshine the bride.

Wedding Ring Trends

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

Fashion goes through numerous trends. Some are seasonal or yearly and determined mostly by the runway shows of high end designers in New York City and Europe. Other trends cover the span of a decade or era such as bell bottom pants for the hippie era and flapper dresses during the roaring twenties. Wedding attire has caught on to this and has yearly trends as well which tend to somewhat reflect the styles and cuts of the designer runways looks. However that’s not all that follows the trends, jewellery too goes through trends only they are publicized and promoted less and the time span of the trend changes less frequently. Wedding rings are the most common form of wedding related jewelry and a very important symbol of a marriage. Wedding rings have undergone some changes lately and brought out a whole new style trend for the new millennium.

Titanium

It’s extremely durable and looks stunning making more men turn to titanium rings. This metal can cut through diamonds and doesn’t scratch which is very appealing to anyone who uses their hands a lot and worries that their ring may eventually become so badly worn it looks cheap or is destroyed. Plus it’s not all that expensive, in fact it’s priced less than many gold or silver variations so you don’t have to spend a fortune to get great quality. There are less designs and fancy settings but this one is strong and if you’re going for quality or durability over flash this might be a good choice for you.

Women’s single band

Traditionally, a woman has an engagement ring and a wedding band. However lots more brides nowadays are opting to lose one and go with the single band look just like men. Usually the single ring is very unique, the type that would be difficult to match with a second band however it can really be anything. This is a great way to save some money if you’re feeling a crunch on your wallet. Just think, you can always get another ring later down the road for an anniversary if you really want one.

Coloured stones

Instead of classic white diamonds lots of couple are choosing birthstones and unique colored diamonds to grace their fingers as a way of expressing their personal style. There are all sorts of gemstones that can be used instead of diamonds. It’s a matter of personal preference and since you’ll be wearing the ring for a long time it should be something you really like.

Custom designs

Lots of couple are designing their own rings, some by themselves and others as a couple. These custom rings are truly one of a kind and will make your friends jealous that your significant other was so thoughtful.

The Latest Wedding Veil Trends

Saturday, July 18th, 2009

For several years wedding veils were seemingly non-existent. It seemed like the concept of a bride wearing a veil with her dress were gone, but veils are making a comeback and in a big way. These trends have been seen on the runway, on the red carpet and walking down the aisle in the past year, here are some of the best ideas for brides seeking to reclaim the traditional wedding veil.

Birdcage veils
Take a cue from Hollywood starlets walking the red carpet and wear a birdcage veil. Popular in the 1920s, the hat or headband with attached veil is making a comeback. Square in shape and just barely covering the face it’s stylish, sexy and still innocent enough to make any blushing bride feel confident and beautiful.

Flyaway veils
Not the veil type but want something just to stick to tradition? The flyaway veil is for you. It’s extremely short and almost becomes like a hair accessory. This is perfect for a young, cute bride who wants to show she is fun loving and free spirited.

Crystal covered
Although it will weigh down your head some crystal covered veils are all the rage. You’ll shine like the princess you are. There are lots of different kinds of crystals so you can choose what size, color and shape you like best.

Silk lined
Instead of just sticking to chiffon and tulle, veils are now taking on silk. Silk lined veils are beautiful and feel ever so smooth against the back of your neck. Though they have more weight to them they still flow well and when correctly made hang like chiffon instead of drooping like a heavier fabric.

Tiara veils
Since every girl wants to be a princess at one point or another it seems only fitting that veils are now being attached to tiaras. Find a crown you love and have your veil sewn to it or choose a combo that’s to die for.

Short Wedding Dresses

Saturday, July 18th, 2009

Wedding dresses have traditionally always been long, formal and full gowns. It’s like a woman’s day to take on the role of princess and have the most elaborate dress she could ever want or imagine. However lately the trend has changed and brides are taking on a new sense of style. Besides the dresses becoming less formal, slimmer and sleeker they are also getting shorter.

The latest fashions on the runway showed off shortened hemlines paired with intricate details on the bodice and back. So what’s up with the short dresses you ask? Well, it’s more casual and a lot of brides are trying to make their weddings into more simple and casual affairs, especially when on a budget. Shorter dresses instantly give the impression of a laid back affair versus a black tie formal dinner party.

Many dresses have stunning backs, beaded bust lines and scalloped edges which give them a little more pizzazz and make them stand out from being just another white dress. However you can choose any style you want and even just dress it up a bit to make it a little more fancy. Add some chandelier earrings and jewelry to make spice it up with sparkles. Or create an interesting hair accessory that will bring the attention to your face.

The best accessory for a short wedding dress though is a killer pair of high heels. Spend some money on a pair of shoes that will show off your legs, keep your comfortable for a long period of time, are fashionable and fun. This is your chance to show off your complete style and womanhood in full bloom.

Short wedding dresses aren’t for everyone but they are great for lots of people and situations. Perfect for a Vegas wedding, beach wedding, civil ceremony or a bride who just wants to show some leg and get ready to party!
